HARASSMENT, ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AND MENTAL HEALTH: A STUDY OF FEMALE STUDENTS COMMUTING VIA PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Abstract
The current study was investigating the impact of harassment on mental health and academic performance between female students commuting through public transport. The sample of the current study was consisted of N=200 University female students in different university. The current study aimed to specifically explore the harassment effect the student’s mental health and academic performance while their travelling on public transport. The female students faced the harassment on public transport for this purpose used the Direct SH, The Sexual Experiences Questionnaire-High School version (SEQ-HS) by Collinsworth (2000), and the 21-item Coping with Stranger Harassment scale developed by Kimberly M. Fairchild, Academic Self-Efficacy Scale 40-item by Gafoor and Ashraf (2006), with reference to assessed the mental health use the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12). The research findings investigated through regression analysis, correlation and mediation/moderation analysis to find out the relationships between these variables. The regression analysis specifies that harassment meaningfully negatively affects both academic performance and mental health, the correlation analysis display the meaningfully relationship harassment effect the academic and mental health Mediation analysis displays that the moderately mediate the relationship between harassment and mental health, while moderation analysis suggests that academic self-efficacy moderates the impact of harassment on academic performance.
