Abstract

This study examines the relationship between Health Self-Efficacy, Health Locus of Control, and, Health Protective Behaviours among Pakistani young adults. It utilizes a sample of 256 individuals aged 18-25 from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, a correlational research design was implemented to assess these variables through validated scales. Results revealed a positive correlation between Health-Protective Behaviours and both Health Self-Efficacy (r = .256, p < .01) and Internal Locus of Control (r = .404, p < .01), with regression analysis confirming the significant impact of Internal Locus of Control (B = .976, p < 0.01) on health behaviors. Socioeconomic differences were also significant, with ANOVA indicating variability in health behaviors across different socioeconomic groups (F(3, 250) = 4.62, p = .004). No significant gender differences emerged. These findings suggest that fostering self-efficacy and an internal locus of control may promote healthier behaviors among young adults. Addressing these psychological drivers could support targeted interventions, aiding in the reduction of Pakistan's dual burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases among youth so that the course and direction of health can be effectively influenced.
