Abstract

India and their 'Necklace of Diamonds' approach as a strategic counter to the Chinese String of Pearls in the Indian Pacific. It examines how India uses networks of maritime partnerships, strategic port access, naval diplomacy to gain access to strategic sea communication lines and power over the region. The importance of the United States is highlighted as a key facilitator and develops India having better capabilities in the ocean, by enhancing the Indian order using defense agreements and operations, establishing a rules-based order and balancing the China rising maritime aggressiveness.
