EXPLORING TRANSGENDER CONCIOUSNESS IN FAIQA MANSAB’S THIS HOUSE OF CLAY AND WATER
Abstract
People who identify as transgender haveendured generations of abuse andneglect;as a result of their dual consciousness, they are victimized by bullying. Thegender norms upheld by theculturecategorize people into two groupsbasedon their gender identity: thosewhoidentify as transgender are viewed as outsiders who have disruptednature'sorder. There is a transgender population that is kept distinct fromthetwogender systems, as explained by the numerous researches that addressthissubject from different angles. Certain individuals are biologicallytransgender, while some have dual identities as a result of changingtheirgender and physical attributes to conform to social norms andboundaries. They divide themselves according to this classification, whichis basedonthe conditions and the area in which they reside. In order to drawattentionto the aforementioned problems and the difficulties transgender peopleface as "intruders" in nature, this study examines Faiqa Mansab's ThisHouseof Clay and Water. In order to demonstrate this, the research combinesthetheoretical frameworks provided by Sandra Bam, Gender SchemaTheory, and Ekins and King, Four Modes of Transgenderize, in order to identifythepsychological and paraxial factors that contribute to the developmentoftransgender consciousness. It also makes recommendations for individualand societal actions that can be taken to ameliorate the situationof thetransgender community in Pakistani society.
